Martin Donnelly

Irish Song Poet There is a very strong sense of place in Martin Donnelly’s songs. They reverberate with the rhythm of the seasons, the seas of Ireland and the flight of the birds, which are ever present in his imagery. In the songs, Martin strives to delve beneath the historical, social and political perceptions of the land and connect at a deeper, spiritual level. Alastair McIntosh author of ‘Soul and Soil’ Aurum Press, describes Martins songs as, ‘the music of deep ecology’ while in ‘The Natural History of Ulster’, Blackstaff Press, they are likened to the ‘mystic poetry of Patrick Kavanagh.’ “The rhythm of my soul is with the tidal ebb and flow, of seasons for reasons deeper than we know.” from Rathlin Island on album Stone and Light. The songs are also of the human journey. Many find that the songs speak to them bringing hope and solace in challenging times of their lives. Baruch Urieli, author of ‘Male and Female,’ published by Temple Lodge, describes them as ‘full of compassion, humanity and truth.’ The songs have become an integral part of transpersonal psychology workshops and seminars he facilitates with his partner Linda McKeown. He and Linda trained with Ian Gordon – Brown and Barbara Somers of the the London Centre for Transpersonal Psychology 1989-90. They now run a year-long ‘Foundation In Spiritual Psychology’ bringing together the work of the transpersonal psychologists with Rudolf Steiner’s Spiritual Science. As a performer Martin has tours regularly in Germany, Holland and Norway, England, Scotland and Ireland. Martin has shared the stage with songwriting greats such as Si Khan, Townes van Zandt, Tom Russell, Jimmy McCarthy and Dougie McLean. At present he is also collaborating with poet Tess Gallagher and ceramist Deirdre Hawthorne in concert/readings and in performance/talks respectively. Martin has published three albums of original songs, Stone and Light, Round Tower Music, 1995 Earthbound, 2002 Rushlight, 2010 For more detail visit www.martindonnellymusic.co.uk [email protected] tel. 0044 2890424607 martindonnellymus on youtube Tess Gallagher. www.poets.org www.deirdrehawthorne.com www.f-euerherz.de |
